Get Sorted work with young people 'not in education, employment or training'.

The NEET programme is designed to develop the musical skill and knowledge of young people, by providing facilities and instruction in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment!

As well as musical developement "we provide key skills, life skills, world of work and a range of challenges which leads to accreditation. We want young people to achieve, we want them to be heard and we want to help them succeed."

ASDAN PSD certificates for Learning Centre Students.

20 young people from the Get Sorted Learning Centre have achieved a certificate in ASDAN PSD.

20 youn people, 15 male and 5 female, have recieved their Entry 3 ASDAN PSD (Personal and Social Development) certificates. Working in the Learning Centre - or the Shed, as it is known - young people have been working towards a qualification designed to help the student in "becoming confident individuals who are physically, emotionally and socially healthy, being responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society and embrace change and managing risk together with their own wellbeing.

The Year 11 'Sheddies' will be using the qualificationas a stepping stone to go on to college and the younger students will be progressing to PSD Level 1.

All the Learning Centre Staff would like to congratualte all the students for their hard work and achievement!

Edexcel - Functional Skills being taught at Get Sorted

Get Sorted is now delivering the Edexcel - Functional Skills qualification.

This new qualificiation (Functional Skills) is being taught by our learning centre team in "The Shed" to help support our school partnerships and young people who need numeracy, literacy and ICT qualifications. It is available from Entry One level through to Level 2.

Here is what the EdExcel website says about Functional Skills:

"Functional skills are qualifications in English, maths and ICT that equip learners with the basic practical skills required in everyday life, education and the workplace.

They are stand-alone qualifications in their own right, but they're also embedded within GCSEs, and are a component of the 14-19 Diploma and the Foundation Learning suite of qualifications. In addition, functional skills are a mandatory part of the BTEC Apprenticeships framework. From September 2012, functional skills will be the only skills component accepted as part of BTEC Apprenticeships."

The Get Sorted Learning Centre (known as The Shed to the young people) is a detached bungalow behind the main building. Throughout the years the Learning Centre has grown and developed and now provides excellent facilities for young people who are looking for an alternative curriculum. Here, young people can learn how to learn again, reach their own potential, achieve qualifications and take exams, receive pastoral support and work towards their own goals. When the time comes for them to leave school, they can move on to our Stepping Stone project where they will be supported until they find work, move on to further education or join the NEETs programme. Referrals come from a wide range of services including schools, social services, know the score (drugs counselling team) and other voluntary and statutory agencies.
